Fruit Wine and Cheese Pairing

2007 November 28
by Dominic Rivard

Now that the holiday season is upon us, there will be a lot of wine and cheese events happening everywhere. A common question which may pop up with us fruit wine lovers may be ‘what kind of cheese goes with this wine?’. It is usually easy for us to answer this question for Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir or any red or white wine. But, what about with fruit wines?

I would like to share some cheese and fruit wine pairings with you:

Apple Wine – Fontina

Apricot – Jarlsberg

Blackberry – Cabernet Soaked Cheeses or Havarti

Blueberry – Provolone

Cherry Wine – Blue or Cheddar, Gruyere

Peach Wine – Havarti

Pear Wine – Tilsit (swiss)

Plum Wine – Stilton

Rhubarb – Edam

Raspberry – Gruyere or Havarti

Give those a try, you won’t be dissapointed!

The pairings are courtesy of Lynfred Winery, near Chicago

No one seems to comment on your interesting blog. I came here from your Chinese blog via a search engine in the first place. Would you be able to tell me where to get these fruit wines in France? (I’m French and love ‘pairing’ wine with food)

I also enjoy apple wine with a sharp farmhouse cheddar.

I find havarti goes good with elderberry wine.
