The Huge Health Benefits of Fruit Wines

I have been on a bit of a health kick lately so I thought I would dedicate the next couple of posts to the health benefits of fruit wine and why drinking fruit wine is not only good for pleasure but also for your health.

The health benefits of fruit wine and of moderate drinking as been known for years. Eating fruits daily is also very beneficial to ones health. As most quality fruit wines are made from pure fruit, the wines we love have many of the benefits of traditional grape wines as well as eating fresh fruit.

It is no secret that eating more fruits and vegetables can help you live a longer, healthier life. Everyday or so, scientific research sheds more light on the benefits of phytonutrients. These naturally occurring plant compounds function within your body to help boost your immune system and fight disease.

Cranberry Health Research

Cranberries have elevated levels of phytonutrients, and many have antioxidant activity.

Cardiovascular Health: Research shows that cranberries have the ability to decrease total cholesterol and LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, and increase blood flow.

Anti-cancer: Cranberries are rich in flavonoids. These phytonutrients have been shown to inhibit certain types of cancer.

Ulcers: New research suggests compounds found in cranberries may inhibit ulcer causing bacteria from sticking to the stomach wall.

Anti-aging: Polyphenolic compounds found in cranberry may help to protect against neurodegenerative diseases, and the memory and coordination losses often associated with aging.

Urinary tract infection: The proanothcyanidins found in cranberries can prevent urinary tract infections by inhibiting E. coli bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract wall. The National Kidney Foundation recommends drinking at least one glass of cranberry juice a day to help maintain urinary tract health (I recommend substituting that with a nice glass of cranberry wine!).

As of the time of this writing nobody knows precisely how cranberries work, but nearly everyone agrees that it does.

Raspberry Health Research

Raspberries have been found to significantly reduce the pain caused by sore throats due to cold and flu.

Blackberry Health Benefits

Blackberries are a long standing home remedy for cholera, anaemia, regulates menses, diarrhea and dysentery. Prolonged use is also beneficial for chronic appendicitis, stomach upset, and leucorrhea.

Blueberry Health Benefits

Recent research indicates that blueberries and the juice from them increase ones ability to recall information from ones memory. In Japan, blueberry juice and wines are recommended for the benefit of eyesight and general eye health.

Additional Health Benefits of Fruit Wines

Research just recently completed by European doctors suggests that 1 to 2 alcoholic drinks per day significantly reduce ones chances of developing dementia in old age.

Additionally doctors have said for some time now that a drink a day will also assist in the thinning of ones blood which is helpful in preventing strokes.

Another very important benefit is that fruit wines, most of them at least have higher ORAC values (a measurement of antioxidants) than traditional grape wines. That in itself is reason enough to go for a bottle of fruit wine the next time you wish to enjoy a glass.

For me, one of the greatest health benefits of fruit wine is the enjoyment it brings to drinker, relaxing the body and mind and reducing stress and the cares of the day. That in itself certainly helps not only increase the length of a life but also the quality of it.

I will explore more on this subject in future posts and the benefits of other types of fruit wines, until then stay tuned and have a glass or two to your health (as if we need an excuse)!

  1. According to health research, wine has many benefits such as it is best for heart disease and also prevent heart attacks or strokes. The information that you mention in the article is very important for me. I really needed this information.

  2. I make red wine. I grow about 150 lb of fruit in my back yard. We have a problem here with the wine industry, where in the grape wine dominates the industry and people like me can’t get off the ground, with good quality fruit wines. Soon I will introduce how to make fruit wines on YouTube it’s not so hard you can regulate the alcohol content so that it is not too strong the stronger the alcohol content the more you’re robbing your taste buds of delicious fruit flavors alcohol distorts the flavor. Obviously you could acquire the same benefits that were talked about here, by drinking juices that are fresh and I don’t mean flash pasteurized or processed fruits in jars. You can’t make red wines from juices that you buy in the store because they have been flash pasteurized many of the nutrients of dissipated. I can’t even sell a bottle of raspberry wine because it cost $750 to the state of Oregon for the first bottle.
